The ProcessPreliminary consultation: This meeting is all about brainstorming. Brides are encouraged to bring images and ideas to illustrate the design idea for the dress to be made. I will add any input as far as design ideas that will be flattering to the client's body type, fabric choices according to style of dress and setting of event, and suggestions for incorporating details into the design of the garment. There should ideally be an open conversation and flow of ideas, aided by both images and imagination. Muslins: The first series of fittings will feature the dress in a lightweight cotton fabric, called a muslin. The purpose of the muslin is to ensure that the design and fit of the garment is as it has been envisioned. It is in this stage that any further design ideas should be presented, such as change in silhouette or neckline. Muslins are kind of the "rough draft" of the dress, where we can work and rework the fit and cut of the dress to make sure that what you have envisioned is being physically manifested. There may be several different muslins before we get to where we want to be, so it is important to communicate any new ideas or veto any old ones before we move on to the next step. Each new muslin brings us closer to the final garment. Fittings: The second series of fittings is done after the muslins have given us a final shape and fit of the dress. The final muslin is "polished" and used as a pattern to cut the dress out in the chosen fabric. From here, we will have a few more fittings to ensure that the dress will fit perfectly before it is finalized. This is where any details not dependent on the fit of the dress, such as fabric flowers or beading, can be incorporated to further embellish your design. Construction: The construction of the dress is very important. Each garment made by love, June is handmade in the production area of the Bridal Loft, with careful attention to detail and professional equipment. We do not send out our garments to be made elsewhere for cheap! Everything is carefully inspected before we allow it to leave our workshop. Craftsmanship is our highest priority, and we pride ourselves in our work. We love creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind garments that you will treasure for a lifetime. |
